This included former HIGH
SCHOOL, TECHNICAL SCHOOL
& SECONDARY COLLEGE Students &
Teachers
Hosted by Monterey Secondary College Alumni on
Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at Seaford Taverner, Ballarto Room
for Photos of this Event visit the Alumni Group on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4292569003
Alumni - a collective noun. It is Latin in derivation and signifies past students and parents of an educational institution.
We would like to keep contact with our past students and families.
Anyone who has been in the foyer of the College will recall the photo wall of past students who have gone on to other
successes. This page is like an electronic version of the Foyer Wall of Fame.
In fact, its more than that... its a way to keep in touch with past students and have a current contact address (both residential and e-mail). Monterey students who have moved on maybe able to return to speak with, and inspire students, using the opportunity to share their experiences and successes with current students. Of course, any re-union activities can be facilitated through the Alumni Association.
Houston we have contact !!! Students from around the globe are touching base with the College Alumni area! We have received email from students from afar
a field as England and America.
"Monterey Secondary College Alumni" group on

The "Monterey Secondary College Alumni" group
on social networking site "Facebook" has now reached 600 members including former and
current "Tech", "High" and "College" students, friends and teachers. The group
acts as a meeting point for Monterey Alumni and contains a gallery that includes
over 240 photos of former students, official class photos from 1966 to 2007,
Rock Eisteddfods and school events such as Debutante Balls and Valedictory
dinners.
Current and former students who have a Facebook
account can view and join the group at
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4292569003 . Facebook is free to join
and it's ubiquity as a social tool has helped the Monterey group foster
discussion and photo contributions from former/current students and plans for
reunions are in full swing.
Alumni member Brett Harvey (left Y10 - 1975) wrote: I have recently been in contact with some of my old school friends via a web site called "Friends
Reunited" www.friendsreunited.com.au
If you are wanting to look up former students, this might be a good place to start, according to the web site there are 287 former students listed there. These former students may not have been as successful as some of those listed in your Alumni section, but then again they might have been. The site also has 21 class photographs of former students, these in themselves might be entertaining.

My name is Roseanne (my name at school was Rosanne
Devine, I lived on the Pines estate) I was at Monterey High during 1968
till 1972. My email address is fushia@iprimus.com.au
All my school life I have experienced issues with
learning, my school years were not happy years. However despite this I
have managed to overcome my learning difficulties and strive forward. I
have lived an interesting life and worked in numerous job roles from a
factory worker to a State Executive in a famous large company. I
currently work for the Victorian State Government and I am in the
process of developing my own business as a Service Consultant. I have
two wonderful adult children, I still live in Melbourne. I don't have
any school photos; I am trying to seek copies. Can anyone provide me
with copies please ? I am willing to cover any cost. I hope someone can
help. Thanks, Roseanne
- I'm a former Class of '93 student.
Since leaving school, I have completed a Small Business Traineeship, a
Diploma in Business (Banking and Finance) and I'm mid-way through a Diploma
in Financial Services (Financial Planning). Next year, I plan to continue
my studies with a Graduate Certificate in Marketing. I work as a Senior
Business Analyst for a major bank and my achievements have included winning
a major "Service Delivery Award", "Outstanding Contribution Award" and
attending the "National Challenge" which rewards the top 100 performers of
the company.
Away from work, I enjoy travel (have been
to UK, Europe, Singapore, Sri Lanka, America and Mexico) and the odd spot of
DJ'ing and music production in old school acid house and hip hop music. It's fantastic to keep in touch with the
goings on of Monterey via the website and to witness the spirit of an
ever-growing alumni community. I hope the above
Facebook text helps
contribute to the school's legacy and alumni connection. Cheers!
kind regards,
Greg Harris

Student at Monterey High 1978 (Year 11), Currently living in Tamworth,
NSW.
Family moved frequently; I attended 14 schools across three states. I
was not the most attentive of students; preferring to spend as much time
in the library as possible. I adored books and the escape from the daily
mundane humdrum that they provided.
Loved anything to do with art or biology or history; but failed dismally
at the more important subjects like English, math and the more serious
science avenues. Failed music theory also.
Played a character (Lady Reyburn) in the production “Salad Days”.
I have gone on to experience many different paths in life, including
varying jobs. I worked in a government telecommunications department for
16 years; have been a cook, nurse, nanny, housekeeper, farmhand,
forklift operator, police communications operator and several other
things at times. I have been designing and selling cattle & sheep yards
for the past six years; while also following another passion; music.
(Did I mention that I failed music???) My band “Those Gals” have been
together for almost seven years; have independently released two albums
and earlier this year were semi-finalists on Channel Seven’s
“AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT” . We also have original songs sitting in
Nashville, USA; awaiting consideration by Warner Music and Curb Records.
Even though I had difficulty applying myself to English while at
Monterey ; I feel confident that I have managed to overcome that. I
occasionally write fiction and was encouraged in recent years by winning
a runner-up prize for a short story I submitted to one of the world’s
most prolific publishers: Harlequin Mills & Boon. I still harbour
ambition to make a living writing romantic fiction.
All in all, this student hasn’t gone on to any major acclaim, but I
‘reckon I haven’t done half bad! Thanks, Monterey!
I still keep in touch with a former member of the office staff; the
gracious Mrs Belle Maddern (Mt Eliza; formerly Seaford). She was a good
Samaritan to me in 1978 when I needed emergency accommodation (my
parents lived interstate) and took me into her home for several months.
Regards to all, Look forward to any replies;
