It’s been a busy few weeks for the concert band students at Monterey Secondary College and Aldercourt Primary School. Students attended a combined band day at Healesville High School, on Tuesday 31st of October. They workshopped pieces with students from Healesville High School and Healesville Primary School, in preparation for upcoming performances (stay tuned!).

On Monday 13th of November, the concert band student attended the SEVR Junior Bandfest held at Dandenong High School. The day was lead by clinician Mr Joe O’Callaghan, who has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the Daryl Mackenzie Jazz Orchestra. Additionally he is a low brass teacher at Caulfield Grammar School and also conducts the Melbourne Youth Orchestra’s John Antill Youth Band. Students workshopped and recorded three pieces; Court Festival, Defeating the Giant and Tequila! This workshop had a broad range of students from Grade 4 to Year 9!

At the end of Term 3, some students were given the opportunity to attend the SEVR Intermediate Bandfest at Elizabeth Murdoch College. The day was lead by Mr James Le Fevre who is the National President of Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) and Director of Bands at Our Lady of Sion College. Students were given the opportunity to play in a large ensemble with students from Elizabeth Murdoch College, Frankston High School, Narre Warren P-12 College, McClelland College and Western Port Secondary College.
