Natalie Plane Carlton AFLW Player

Year 12 had guest speaker, Natalie Plane, in to speak to them, an experience that they will be thinking about as they transition into adulthood. The Monterey Alumni discussed her journey from year 7, to the young lady she is today. Natalie Plane is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club in the AFL Women’s competition. She was drafted by Carlton with the club’s eleventh selection and the eighty-third overall in the 2016 AFL Women’s draft. She discussed her career in football as an aboriginal woman, the boundaries of the women’s league, her landscaping apprenticeship, confidence and more. Her discussion about how she got to where she is in Football and Cricket were both inspirational for the group. Her talk was used to show our students that no matter where your journey begins, you can be great. Natalie had a positive attitude and kept the students engaged. Her story is one of handwork and persistence, something that the group will take away. Natalie’s talk to the group is particularly impactful for the group as she started at the same place as them. We wish Natalie all the best with her future and hope to see her kicking some goals this year. Many thanks, Maddison Jennings.
