On Wednesday 26th April, 11 VET Sport & Recreation students participated in a surfing lesson at Smiths Beach in Phillip Island. Students partook in a 2 hour lesson from 11am – 1pm. The conditions were very rough and the weather was extremely cold although that didn’t stop any of the students participating. By the end of the lesson all 11 students stood up on the surf board. Students also learnt about beach conditions including rips, tides, waves & dangerous objects.
Here are some of the comments from the students:
- “It was an amazing experience” – Sam
- “It was wicked! A fantastic feeling when I stood up on the board”- John
- “It makes me want to go back and do it all again”- Justine
On Thursday 4th May 10 students ranging from Year 9 – 12 participated in the Senior Girls Netball Competition at Jubilee Park. Students played 5 games of netball concluding the day with 3 wins and 2 losses. We would like to thank all the girls for their dedication and involvement on the day. We couldn’t have asked 10 better students to represent Monterey Secondary College with such great sportsmanship and encouragement towards each other and the other schools participating. Just remember “Winning isn’t everything – but wanting to win is.”
