The Victorian Curriculum at Year 10 provides a single, coherent and comprehensive set of prescribed content and common achievement standards, which schools use to plan student learning programs.
It allows students to develop their understanding of and their connection to their community and the world around them. Students begin to focus on areas of particular interest related to both their future schooling and intended pathways beyond school.
At Monterey, Year 10 students undertake core subjects and electives reflecting the learning areas as per the Victorian Curriculum to develop their skills in critical and creative thinking, ethics, and their personal, social and intercultural skills. The content and skills covered in each of the areas are important to the development of well-rounded and confident young people.
The learning areas include:
- The Arts
- Health & PE
- The Humanities
Year 10 students are also required to take part in a senior program, either a VCE subject or VET course, which can be taken at Monterey or another nearby educational institution in the Peninsula Alliance. This enables students to understand the needs and requirements of the senior programs on offer at Monterey, as well as to enable students to be the most successful they can be.
The Year 10 program is managed by Rob Sale, the Year 9 and 10 Team Leader. Mr Sale, a member of the teaching staff, ensures the smooth running of the Year 10 program and is the point of contact for parents of Year 10 students.
