Our Story

Monterey Secondary College has a proud history of educating young people for over half a century.

How We Began

Monterey Secondary College has a proud legacy of serving the Frankston North community since the 1960s. Originally established as two separate schools—Monterey High School in 1966 and Monterey Technical School in 1967—each was created to meet the growing demand for secondary education across Frankston North, Carrum Downs and Seaford.

Monterey High School initially operated from portable classrooms at Monterey Primary School (now Mahogany Rise Primary School) before relocating to its own Forest Drive campus in 1967. Monterey Technical School began in temporary facilities at the high school before moving to its own site on Silvertop Street.

In the early 1990s, the two schools were brought together to form a single, united college that could offer a broader and more cohesive educational experience for all students. By 1994, Monterey Secondary College was officially established at the Silvertop Street campus, and the former high school site was later transformed into Monterey Community Park, a shared space that continues to serve the local area today.

Our College Today

Monterey Secondary College is a vibrant and inclusive learning community, committed to supporting every student to thrive. We pride ourselves on creating a calm, respectful and engaging environment where all students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Our school is underpinned by strong trauma informed practices, ensuring that every student’s wellbeing is prioritised and their individual needs are understood. We combine this with high impact, evidence based teaching and a well designed, accessible curriculum that supports success for all learners, regardless of their background, ability or starting point.

At Monterey, strong relationships and high expectations go hand in hand. Our teachers are skilled practitioners who work collaboratively to create meaningful, differentiated learning experiences that promote both academic growth and personal development.

Our modern facilities, including purpose built learning spaces, a senior centre and a competition grade gymnasium, enable innovative teaching and create a supportive environment where students are challenged, encouraged and prepared for life beyond school.

As part of the Frankston North Education Plan, we continue to grow and evolve, working in partnership with families and the broader community to provide a safe, inclusive and empowering education for every student.
